Control In Actions for Elektron Analog Rytm
An ACTION mode for EXP/CV IN 1 and 2: a gate or footswitch holds or toggles the MUTE screen or live recording, or holds or latches FILL.
Module version 0.1.2-experimental. Base firmware: 1.74.
About this module
Stock's CONTROL INPUT menus get a fourth MODE, ACTION. Pick what the input does in the ACTION row: MUTE HLD shows the MUTE screen while the input is high and goes back to the mode you were in when it drops, MUTE TGL opens and closes it, REC HLD records live while the input is high, REC TGL turns live recording on and off, FILL HLD holds FILL, FILL LAT latches and unlatches it. Live recording starts a stopped sequencer and never stops it. A 0 to 5 V gate works as it is; for a footswitch, ACTION LEARN reads its two levels. Bars beside the menu show the input against the learned levels and whether it counts as pressed. Each jack has its own MODE, so one can switch while the other still plays the kit's CV or expression macro.
- Hands-free mutes with both hands on the pads
- Set up in stock's own CONTROL INPUT menus, saved with them
- Works with a 0 to 5 V gate or a footswitch
How to use it
- Plug a footswitch or a 0 to 5 V gate into EXP/CV IN 1, then open GLOBAL > CONTROL > CONTROL INPUT 1 and turn MODE past EXPR to ACTION.
- Choose ACTION LEARN, press the switch a few times and press YES. If the bars' right-hand line drops with your foot off the switch, choose REVERSE DIRECTION.
- Set the ACTION row to MUTE HLD, leave the menu and play: hold the switch and tap pads to mute them, let go to go back to playing.
- Set it to REC TGL: a tap starts live recording, even from stop, and the next tap leaves it while the pattern plays on.
Compatibility notes
- Stay within the jack's -5 V to +5 V.
- The input is read 1,500 times a second; after each switch it is not read for 10 ms, so a footswitch that bounces longer than that can play an action twice.
- A jack in ACTION mode plays no CONTROL IN MOD macro. Without the module, a unit left in ACTION mode reads that jack as nothing.
Test evidence
Author's unit, builds alone: CI06 and CI07 passed every action, both learns with YES and NO, REVERSE DIRECTION and a power cycle; CI09 the bars, both learns' NO and a hold action. CI11 (0.1.1) reads the jacks in the audio interrupt: in rytm-emu every action played within 0.02 to 1.12 ms of the edge (0.1.0: 4 to 49 ms); works great on the unit, as reported. 0.1.2 in LP01, a 16-module set: actions play, ACTION OFF plays nothing, and with both jacks at ACTION OFF the handler takes 0.8 µs a block (0.1.1: 3.6 µs). Not run alone on a unit.
