Silent Pad+Trig Settings for Elektron Analog Rytm
Three checkboxes: pads and TRIG keys select silently outside recording; pads and TRIG keys stay silent in LIVE RECORDING; MUTE ALL SOUND keeps a muted track silent from pads, TRIG keys and MIDI, while trigs still record.
Module version 0.7.0-experimental. Base firmware: 1.74.
About this module
Silent Pad+Trig Settings adds three checkboxes to GLOBAL > CONTROL > SEQUENCER CONFIG, after AUTO TRK SWITCH. SILENT PAD+TRIG covers every state but LIVE and STEP RECORDING: a pad or TRIG key 1-12 press selects its track and stays silent, with no MIDI note. SILENT P+T LIVEREC covers LIVE RECORDING: a pad or TRIG key press selects its track silently and records nothing. With either, hold FUNC and press a pad to play it at the pad's own velocity, or a TRIG key to play its track at the TRIG page's VEL; in LIVE RECORDING both also record. MUTE ALL SOUND extends a mute: on stock a muted track skips its sequencer trigs but still plays from pads, TRIG keys and MIDI; checked, those start no voice and send no MIDI note on either, in any state, and LIVE RECORDING still lays down the trig. Aftertouch is untouched. All three default to unchecked, are kept per GLOBAL slot and are saved with the project.
- Tap pads to pick tracks without hearing them, while editing or while live recording, each switched on its own.
- Mute a track and record into it in silence: pads, TRIG keys and MIDI make no sound, and the trigs still go down.
- FUNC + pad plays and records, at the pad's own velocity; FUNC + TRIG plays at the TRIG page's VEL.
- Three checkboxes per GLOBAL slot, kept through a power cycle; unchecked is stock.
How to use it
- Use a build containing Silent Pad+Trig Settings. Open the GLOBAL menu, then CONTROL > SEQUENCER CONFIG. After AUTO TRK SWITCH are SILENT PAD+TRIG, SILENT P+T LIVEREC and MUTE ALL SOUND; check any with YES or LEFT/RIGHT.
- With SILENT PAD+TRIG checked and the sequencer stopped, tap the SD pad: it makes no sound and the SD track is selected. Hold FUNC and tap SD to hear it at the pad's own velocity. TRIG 5 selects track 5 silently; FUNC + TRIG 5 plays it at VEL.
- With SILENT P+T LIVEREC checked, press RECORD + PLAY for LIVE RECORDING: plain pad and TRIG key taps stay silent and record nothing; hold FUNC and tap a pad or TRIG key to play and record it. Uncheck both to get stock behaviour everywhere.
- With MUTE ALL SOUND checked, mute BD in MUTE mode, press RECORD + PLAY and tap BD: you hear nothing. Stop, unmute BD and play: the trigs you tapped are there.
Controls
- SILENT PAD+TRIG
- Checkbox in GLOBAL > CONTROL > SEQUENCER CONFIG, after AUTO TRK SWITCH. YES toggles it, RIGHT checks, LEFT unchecks. Checked: outside LIVE and STEP RECORDING, pads and TRIG keys 1-12 select their track silently. Kept per GLOBAL slot.
- SILENT P+T LIVEREC
- Checkbox after SILENT PAD+TRIG. YES toggles it, RIGHT checks, LEFT unchecks. Checked: in LIVE RECORDING, pads and TRIG keys 1-13 are silent and record nothing; pads and TRIG 1-12 select their track. Kept per GLOBAL slot.
- MUTE ALL SOUND
- Checkbox after SILENT P+T LIVEREC. YES toggles it, RIGHT checks, LEFT unchecks. Checked: a pad, TRIG key or MIDI note starts no voice on a muted track, or on one silenced by another track's solo, and a pad or TRIG key sends no MIDI note on. Recording is untouched. Kept per GLOBAL slot.
- FUNC + pad
- Where a checked setting applies, plays the pad's track at the strike's velocity, or the fixed velocity with FIX on (stock FUNC + pad uses the TRIG page's VEL); records it in LIVE RECORDING; selects the track only if AUTO TRK SWITCH is checked, as stock.
- FUNC + TRIG 1-13
- Where SILENT PAD+TRIG or SILENT P+T LIVEREC applies, plays the track at the TRIG page's VEL, as a plain TRIG press does on stock, and records it in LIVE RECORDING; selects the track only if AUTO TRK SWITCH is checked, as stock. Stock plays nothing there. GRID and STEP RECORDING keep stock's FUNC + TRIG.
- Pad held down
- Aftertouch, as stock: modulates the track's AFTERTOUCH destinations and sends MIDI poly pressure, also after a silent press.
Compatibility notes
- Built for OS 1.74 only, with core-ar2 0.3.
- 0.5.0 (PS07) and 0.5.1 (PS08) ran on a unit: both settings worked as intended and the renamed row fits, as reported. MIDI out and STEP REC not yet tested on a unit. 0.6.0 with MUTE ALL SOUND ran on a unit as PS10, PS11 and PS12, as reported. MIDI notes in on a unit not tested. 0.7.0's FUNC + TRIG and LIVE REC TRIG keys ran on a unit as PS14, as reported.
- A note already ringing when you mute keeps ringing, as stock: MUTE ALL SOUND stops new hits and does not cut the voice or the delay and reverb tails.
- The SOUND BROWSER's audition reaches the voice by another path, so it still plays on a muted track, on purpose (read in the code, not tested). A muted hit runs no envelope or LFO trig. MIDI out gets no note on or poly pressure from a muted pad, but its release still sends a note off, which a receiver ignores.
- FUNC + TRIG is stock in GRID and STEP RECORDING: it places a trig in GRID RECORDING and plays and selects in STEP RECORDING. Elsewhere stock's FUNC + TRIG plays nothing, and the module makes it play where TRIG keys are silent. 0.7.0 renames the row from SILENT PAD LIVEREC to SILENT P+T LIVEREC.
- With the SILENT rows, a silent press passes its aftertouch on, so MIDI out can carry poly pressure with no note-on before it. MUTE ALL SOUND stops poly pressure on a muted track; the pressure still reaches the sound, so it can modulate a ringing note.
- TRIG 13 (the FX track), the SOUND BROWSER's pad audition and pads with a menu open are silent too; FUNC + pad and FUNC + TRIG play.
- RTRG + pad selects silently; FUNC + RTRG also toggles the metronome click, as on stock, so it is not a clean way to roll.
- A unit that ran 0.6.x starts 0.7.0 with its rows unchecked when linked alone: the LIVE REC row's storage field is renamed, which changes the storage layout, so check the rows again once. The same held from 0.5.x to 0.6.0 and from 0.4.x to 0.5.x.
- A GLOBAL slot saved without a setting, or received as Global SysEx, loads it unchecked.
- LIVE RECORDING counts only while the sequencer runs; a paused LIVE REC follows SILENT PAD+TRIG.
- Like stock's SEQUENCER CONFIG rows, a changed row is saved when you leave the menu: power off straight from SEQUENCER CONFIG and the change is lost (seen on a unit, with KIT RELOAD ON CHG behaving the same).
Test evidence
Emulator (rytm-emu, OS 1.74). 0.7.0 (PS14): FUNC + TRIG plays its track at VEL wherever plain TRIG is silent; with SILENT P+T LIVEREC, plain TRIG in LIVE REC is silent and runs no record code, and FUNC + TRIG runs it as stock's press does; GRID and STEP REC and unchecked rows stay stock. 0.6.0 (PS12): MUTE ALL SOUND gives a muted track digital zero and no MIDI note on or pressure, LIVE REC still records, the row survives power-off. 0.5.0, 0.5.1 and 0.6.0 ran on a unit, as reported.
