Deja Vu for Elektron Octatrack
Three new LFO waves with a loop of random values you can lock, mutate, snap to root and fifth, or glide.
Module version 0.1.0-experimental. Base firmware: 1.40C.
About this module
Deja Vu adds DJV, DJQ and DJC to the audio-track LFOs. Each keeps a loop of remembered random values: each visit to a slot replays its value or rolls a new one, DEJA (SPD) sets how often. The TRIG setting picks what moves through the loop: every step (FREE), a step-locked value per trig (HOLD), one slot per trig (ONE), or a trig that restarts it (TRIG, HALF). DJV steps, DJQ plays root, fifth and octaves on PTCH (whole knob steps elsewhere), DJC glides between values.
- SPD sets DEJA (replay probability): p-lock it, put it on a scene, sweep it with the crossfader
- MULT sets the loop length: 1, 2, 4 ... 64; in the step modes the track length gives any length up to 64
- TRIG picks the clock: FREE every step, HOLD one value per step played by trigs, ONE one per trig, TRIG and HALF restart on a trig
- DJQ: root, fifth and octaves on PTCH (DEP sets which are in reach), whole knob steps elsewhere; DJC: smooth glides
How to use it
- LFO SETUP: WAVE = DJV, PMTR = PTCH, MULT = 64X, TRIG = HOLD, DEP up; then turn SPD from 0 (fresh) to 127 (locked)
Compatibility notes
- Three waves (WAVE 19-21: DJV, DJQ, DJC); the WAVE cell's icon bound is raised to 21
- Audio-track LFOs only; MIDI-track LFOs keep 19 waves
- DJQ snaps PTCH to root, fifth and octaves (no scale setting); DJV and DJC move in 1/5-semitone knob steps
- Opened without the module, an LFO on WAVE 19-21 plays SAW and the WAVE cell reads past stock's tables (not yet run on hardware)
- Tested on one MKII over USB (install, self-test, power-cycle restore, removal, the three waves); the card build was not flashed
Test evidence
On the owner's MKII over USB (24 Oct 2026), the exact package 95079643: installed, kept and self-tested on the flashed beta base, restored after a power cycle, self-tested again, removed. On a RAM-booted development twin: WAVE runs T7, T8, DJV, DJQ, DJC with their labels and icons; the LFO output read from memory held one value with one locked slot, took a new value every step at SPD 0, alternated two values with two locked slots, and DJQ on PTCH gave only root, fifth and octaves; removal put the stock sites back. Host gate (verify.py, 17 checks); emulator: the five TRIG modes, DJQ to 0.2 cents, DJC glides, trig kinds, 0.15-0.17 % CPU with 24 LFOs.
