Quant Live Rec for Elektron Octatrack
Hold [REC] and tap [PLAY] to see QUANTIZE LIVE REC in a toast; tap [PLAY] again while it is up to switch it.
Module version 0.1.0-experimental. Base firmware: 1.40C.
About this module
QUANTIZE LIVE REC decides whether live-recorded trigs snap to the steps. Stock keeps it in PROJECT > SYSTEM > PERSONALIZE. This module shows it on the gesture that starts live recording and lets a second tap switch it, without leaving the page you are on.
- OS 1.40C only. The author tested the gesture and a power cycle on an MKI. On an MKII (13 October 2026) the user reported the gesture, both toasts fitting the screen, the PERSONALIZE redraw and a power cycle working, with this module alone and, before the redraw was added, in combined builds with other modules.
- The first [REC] + [PLAY] still starts live recording, as on stock. While live recording runs, further [REC] + [PLAY] presses do nothing on stock; here they show or invert the setting.
- If a stock notification happens to be on screen while [REC] is held, the first [PLAY] inverts the setting instead of only showing it; the toast then shows the new value.
- The setting is the stock global PERSONALIZE value in battery-backed memory: not saved per project or Part, and reset by an OS upgrade like the rest of PERSONALIZE.
How to use it
- Hold [REC] and tap [PLAY]: a toast shows LIVE REC: QUANTIZED or LIVE REC: UNQUANTIZED, the current setting, and live recording starts as on the stock OS.
- While the toast is still on screen (about one second), keep [REC] held and tap [PLAY] again to invert the setting; the toast reopens with the new value.
- Tap [PLAY] once more while it is up to switch back, or release [REC] to close the toast; the setting stays as last shown.
- Press [STOP] to end live recording. PROJECT > SYSTEM > PERSONALIZE > QUANTIZE LIVE REC shows and edits the same setting.
Controls
- QUANTIZE LIVE REC
- The stock PERSONALIZE setting. QUANTIZED is the ticked QUANTIZE LIVE REC box. The module does not change its stored value or default; it only adds the [REC] + [PLAY] gesture that shows and inverts it.
Compatibility notes
- OS 1.40C only. The author tested the gesture and a power cycle on an MKI. On an MKII (13 October 2026) the user reported the gesture, both toasts fitting the screen, the PERSONALIZE redraw and a power cycle working, with this module alone and, before the redraw was added, in combined builds with other modules.

- The setting is the stock global PERSONALIZE value in battery-backed memory: not saved per project or Part, and reset by an OS upgrade like the rest of PERSONALIZE.
- With PROJECT > SYSTEM > PERSONALIZE open, a flip redraws the list so the box follows at once (emulator and MKII; beside Output Matrix, emulator only). The author noted an occasional small empty box where the toast was right after it closes.
- This is the all-or-nothing QUANTIZE LIVE REC setting, not the per-track TRIG QUANT. No effect slot, menu row or project data is added.
- Over USB for beta testers: one ColdFire package with its two jmp sites, loaded, kept, undone and removed on the Modwerk beta base (tested on an MKII, 15 October 2026); it adds no effect row or project data, so a project never names it as missing.
Test evidence
The image gate passes 36 checks: the retired 0x400522ca site left as the original OS has it, both jmp detours and the unit's 188 bytes in place, then under the ColdFire port by the keys (MKII panel) the show, invert, invert-back, expiry and [REC]-release behaviour beside the original OS under the same keys, an open PERSONALIZE list redrawn by a flip, and a power cycle of the port keeping an inverted setting. The toast wording is Modwerk’s; the author reported the gesture and a power cycle on an MKI (25 and 30 September 2026) for his own build. On an MKII (13 October 2026), with this module alone at the current source, the user reported the gesture working, both toasts fitting the screen, an open PERSONALIZE list following each flip and a changed setting surviving a power cycle; combined test builds with other modules gave the same results before the redraw was added. The flip's two stores and its redraw call were re-encoded afterwards (15 October 2026) so a USB package repeats no stock run; loaded over USB on the user's MKII (15 October 2026), that source passed the gesture, PERSONALIZE redraw and power-cycle checks, and its trial, Keep and removal worked.
