Temp Save for Elektron Octatrack
FUNC + YES keeps a temporary copy of the active pattern and its Part; FUNC + NO puts both back, as Temp Save and Reload do on the Digitakt and Digitone.
Module version 0.1.0-experimental. Base firmware: 1.40C.
About this module
Got a groove you like? Press FUNC + YES to keep a temporary copy of the pattern and its whole Part, scenes included, from the pattern screen or from almost any page or menu. Experiment freely, then press FUNC + NO to bring both back at once, even while the sequencer plays. The copy is separate from the saved Part and the copy/paste clipboard, so RELOAD PART and pattern paste work as before.
- One gesture keeps the pattern (trigs, locks, length, scale) and the whole active Part: machines, every page, both effects and the scenes.
- FUNC + NO restores both at once, also while playing; the crossfader, the selected scenes and the mutes stay where your hands left them.
- Separate from the saved Part and the clipboard: RELOAD PART still goes back to your last Part save, and copied patterns or tracks stay on the clipboard.
- On another pattern, bank or project FUNC + NO shows NO TEMP SAVE and changes nothing.
- Works from the pattern screen and from page and menu windows; sample lists keep their FUNC + YES preview, and dialogs and editors are left alone.
How to use it
- On the pattern screen, or in a SETUP page, MIXER or another menu, press FUNC + YES: TEMP SAVED.
- Change the pattern and the Part as you like: trigs, knobs, scenes, machines.
- Press FUNC + NO: RELOADED. The pattern and its Part are back as they were at FUNC + YES.
Compatibility notes
- OS 1.40C. Tested by hand on one MKII over USB; the MKI and the card build were not run on a unit.
- One temporary copy, of one pattern and its Part, kept in the module's memory: gone after a power-off and never written to the card. Save the Part and the project to keep your work.
- FUNC + YES and FUNC + NO no longer repeat ARM ALL and DISARM ALL on the pattern screen and in page and menu windows; YES and NO alone still do. In sample lists (FUNC + YES still previews), an audio track's SRC SETUP, AED, dialogs, RENAME, TEMPO and CHOOSE PROJECT both gestures stay stock.
- The reload replaces the pattern and the Part as a whole, including edits made since FUNC + YES on any track; the Part then counts as edited, as after a paste.
- Another project, or this one saved under another name, makes the copy unusable (NO TEMP SAVE).
- Uses 892 bytes of code and a 42,892-byte buffer; over USB from the module pool all modules share.
Test evidence
On one MKII over USB (28 Oct 2026), by hand on the flashed base: save and reload on the pattern screen and in eleven page and menu windows, stock FUNC + YES/NO kept in SRC SETUP, both sample lists, AED, a yes/no dialog and RENAME; earlier sources also covered machine and Part changes, quick double presses, menus, YES/NO alone and FUNC + CUE. Under ot_emu (verify.py, 54 checks MKII, 45 MKI): the pattern and Part restored byte for byte in RAM and their battery copies, every page and menu window, each stock-only case, Part switch, bank without saved Parts, MIDI mode, power cycle; beside Apply Scene, Preview Vol and Direct Jump.
