Tiempos for Elektron Octatrack
One screen with the time left on all eight tracks, for playing long samples like a DJ.
Module version 0.1.0-experimental. Base firmware: 1.40C.
About this module
Hold CUE and press MIDI to show every track on one screen: a bar of what is left to play, the real time left and the total length. The time left is measured from how fast each voice really plays, so it follows timestretch, repitch and tempo changes. It only reads and draws: no effect slot, no knob, and nothing in the project changes.
- Time left for all eight tracks at once
- Follows timestretch, repitch and tempo changes
- The time left flashes in the last 30 seconds
- Playback keys, track keys, encoders and the crossfader keep working while it shows
How to use it
- Hold CUE and press MIDI from any screen; do the same, or press NO, to close it.
- LEFT or RIGHT switches the right column between total length and time played.
Compatibility notes
- Needs the Modwerk base over USB: it uses the base's draw and key events.
- Tested on one MKI with the Modwerk bases 24a0ed57 and 9b3ba417 (install, Keep, power cycle and Undo of the published package). Not tested yet: an MKII, Part changes and project reloads with the screen open, timestretch modes other than NORMAL, and other modules installed at the same time.
- CUE + MIDI no longer switches to MIDI tracks while Tiempos is installed; MIDI alone still does.
- A track that loops shows the time left to the end of the sample, not to the end of the loop.
- A track playing backwards (RATE below 0) shows as empty once it reaches its start: the unit clears the voice there.
- Until a track has played for half a second, its time is shown at the sample's original speed.
- Thru, Neighbor and Pickup tracks show no time.
Test evidence
On the developer's MKI (OS 1.40C, released base 24a0ed57) over USB, 28-30 Oct 2026: timed trials of the exact package 0506a245 and its predecessor showed the time left, totals and elapsed time of whole, trimmed and Flex tracks against a stopwatch at 120 and 140 BPM, the last-30-seconds flash, a retrigger, tempo changes the double press that closes it, and (package 8c886466) reverse playback with RATE below 0; a Keep survived a power cycle and Undo removed it; LOAD showed no CPU or DSP change. Host tests 24/24. Not run: an MKII, Part changes and reloads with the screen open, other modules beside it, a static cycle bound.
